Changeling

Film Amerika bergenre drama keluaran tahun 2008 ini berjudul Changeling. Sutradara Clint Eastwood membuatnya berdasarkan kisah nyata yang terjadi pada tahun 1928 di Los Angeles. Kisah tentang perjuangan seorang ibu untuk menemukan anaknya yang hilang. Peristiwa kehilangan anak yang juga dialami keluarga lain, hingga mengarah pada terbukanya kasus penculikan dan pembunuhan anak di "Wineville Chicken Coop" Los Angeles. J. Michael Straczynski menyusun 95% naskah Changeling setelah mengadakan pengamatan mendalam terhadap 6,000 dokumentasi tentang kasus tersebut. Pemilihan karakter dan karakterisasi film ini pun disesuaikan dengan tokoh-tokoh nyata dalam kasusnya yang sesungguhnya.
Changeling mengeksplorasi tema humanisme seperti diskriminasi terhadap hak perempuan, korupsi politik, kejahatan pada anak, dam reaksi terhadap tindak kekerasan. Karya bagus tersebut dipertunjukkan kali pertama dalam the 61st Cannes Film Festival 20 Mei 2008.



Dikisahkan pada tahun 1928 di Los Angeles, seorang ibu bernama Christine Collins yang diperankan oleh Angelina Jolie kehilangan anaknya, Walter (Griffith) sepulang kerja. Dalam suasana panik, ia laporkan kejadian tersebut di LAPD (Los Angeles Police department). Tak henti-hentinya ia berjuang menemukan anaknya kembali, hingga beberapa bulan kemudian kepolisian LA menemukan dan mengembalikan seorang anak yang diklaim sebagai "Walter" (Conti). Atas desakan polisi, Christine membawa anak tersebut kerumahnya. Namun ia tak tinggal diam. Kuatnya perasaan Christine bahwa ia bukanlah Walter membuat ia mengumpulkan bukti berupa tinggi badan dan pengakuan guru Walter mengenai sikap anak tersebut. Dari bukti tersebut, orang tua tunggal ini mengadakan konferensi pers yang menyebabkannya dijebloskan ke dalam rumah sakit jiwa oleh kepolisian.
Selama Christine berada di RSJ, seorang detektif, Ybarra (Kelly) pergi sebuah lahan pertanian di Wineville, Riverside County, untuk menangkap seorang imigran gelap Sanford Clark berumur 15 tahun. Penangkapan ini berbuah titik terang akan banyaknya aksi penculikan anak di Los Angeles. Melalui pengakuan si remaja tersebut didapat keterangan bahwa ia dipaksa pamannya, Gordon Northcott (Harner) untuk membantunya menculik dan membunuh sekitar 20 anak. Walter dicurigai menjadi salah satu diantaranya berdasarkan foto-foto sejumlah anak hilang. Setelah kabar tentang itu dirilis di media massa sekaligus menjadi bukti bahwa anak yang dipertemukan dengan Christine bukanlah Walter, tekanan masyarakat terhadap kinerja polisi semakin meningkat. Puncaknya Jones and Davis sebagai kepala polisi dicopot jabatannya.
Northcott ditangkap, diadili, di vonis bersalah, dan dihukum gantung oleh pengadilan. Eksekusi Northcott disaksikan oleh para orang tua yang anaknya terbunuh termasuk Christine. Beberapa tahun berlalu, hingga pada 1935, David Clay seorang anak yang disangka ikut terbunuh ditemukan hidup. Clay menuturkan ia dan beberapa anak termasuk Walter melarikan diri dari sekapan Northcott, meski setelah itu ia tak tahu bagaimana nasib Walter. Namun cerita Clay menumbuhkan harapan Christine akan keberadaan anaknya.
Cerita dalam film ini terinspirasi oleh kisah nyata yang terjadi tepatnya tahun 1926 ketika Gordon Stewart Northcott mengambil keponakannya, Sanford Clark, dari sebuah asrama di Kanada. Clark mendapat pelecehan seksual dari pamannya hingga Clark ditangkap polisi pada September 1928 dan mengakui adanya penculikan, penganiayaan, dan pembunuhan terhadap sejumlah anak oleh Northcott dan ibunya, Sarah Louise Northcott. Namun, polisi hanya berhasil menemukan kerangka-kerangka manusia yang ditimbun di sekitar lahan pertanian. Christine Collins benar-benar ibu dari salah satu anak korban penculikan dan penganiayaan tersebut.
Beberapa tahun sebelum menulis kisah Changeling, J. Michael Straczynski, seorang penulis skenario dan jurnalis, dihubungi sebuah sumber di Los Angeles City Hall tentang keberadaan arsip kriminal yang akan dibakar. Setelah mendalami arsip tersebut, ia melakukan penelitian mendalam hingga menghasilkan naskah The Strange Case of Christine Collins. Juni 2006, Universal Studios dan Howard's Imagine Entertainment membeli naskah tersebut untuk diadaptasi dalam betuk film.
Pemilihan lokasi dilakukan berdasarkan seting waktu terjadinya peristiwa, maka James J. Murakami memilih beberapa gedung lama di LA sebagai tempat pengambilan gambar termasuk wilayah suburban di San Dimas, San Bernardino dan Pasadena yang dianggap dapat menggambarkan situasi LA tahun 1920an.
Penyesuaian kostum tak luput dari perhatian. Deborah Hopper (penanggungjawab kostum) bekerja keras menyediakan sekitar 1.000 kostum bercorak tahun 1920an untuk para pemain. Tentu saja ini bukan pekerjaan mudah karena rentang waktu yang panjang dan perkembangan dunia mode yang pesat. Gaya busana wanita pada masa itu adalah blus bercorak garis besar hitam, topi lebar klasik, jas bulu, dan sarung tangan kulit dan rajut. Untuk menyempurnakan penampilan, Hopper bahkan telah berkonsultasi dengan sejarawan. Wow, totalitas sinematografi Amerika.
Kelemahan hak wanita menjadi salah satu tema yang diangkat dalam Changeling. Upaya Christine mendapatkan haknya banyak terganjal oleh dominasi pria, dalam hal ini kepolisian LA. Wanita juga diposisikan sebagai pihak yang tidak dipercaya kesaksiannya. Namun, kritikus film, Prairie Miller menganggap Cangeling sebagai film bertema feminisme. Korupsi dalam hirarki politik menjadi tema lain. Krisis kepercayaan masyarakat terhadap pejabat kepolisian dan ketidak mampuan pihak kepolisian itu sendiri mengatasi berbagai persoalan kriminal nampak begitu jelas. Sedangkan kekerasan terhadap anak menjadi tema sentral. Pola asuh dan komunikasi orang tua dan anak rupanya ingin pula ditujukan sebagai pesan moral.
Beberapa kritikus film memberikan apresiasi terhadap akting Jolie yang maksimal. Emosi dan semangat perjuangannya mampu ditunjukkan dengan baik.
Kemasan Changeling yang sarat pesan moral dan cukup dramatis membuatnya dinominasikan sebagai 1 dari 10 film terbaik 2008 oleh the National Board of Review of Motion Pictures. Tak hanya itu, karya hebat ini juga dinominasikan meraih penghargaan dalam 81st Academy Awards sebagai Best Actress (Angelina Jolie), Best Art Direction (James Murakami dan Gary Fettis), dan Best Cinematography (Tom Stern), 2008 African American Film Critics Association Awards sebagai Best Actress (Angelina Jolie), 2008 Art Directors Guild Awards sebagai Excellence in Production Design – Period Film (James Murakami), dan memenangkan penghargaan Best Film About Women dalam 2008 Women Film Critics' Circle Awards, serta beberapa penghargaan bergenngsi lain.

The Devil Wears Prada

The Devil Wears Prada adalah film drama komedi yang dirilis tepatnya tanggal 30 Juni 2006. Film bertabur bintang hollywood tersebut diadaptasi dari novel dengan judul sama karya Lauren Weisberger yang terbit tahun 2003.
Ketertarikan saya untuk menonton film yang dibintangi oleh Anne Hathaway dan artis senior hollywood, Meryl Streep ini sebenarnya karena judulnya yang unik. Saya sangka filmnya bergenre komedi horor, namun sesaat setelah menonton seperempat bagian awal, saya sangat menikmati alur demi alurnya yang ringan dan lucu.
Secara garis besar, film berdurasi 109 menit tersebut berkisah seputar gaya hidup termasuk gaya busana. Maka tak heran jika hampir seluruh adegan menyuguhkan tampilan label-label produk terkenal dunia seperti Apple computers, Starbucks, T-Mobile Sidekick 2 mobile phone, Motorola RAZR V3 silver, Lincoln Town Cars, Mercedes-Benz S-Class S550, channel, prada, dan beberapa label produk fashion terkenal lainnya. Atas keterlibatan produk-produk fashion dunia tersebut, film ini dinobatkan menjadi film dengan biaya kostum termahal.



Lebih dari itu, penokohan masing-masing karakter digarap sangat bagus, terutama Maryl Streep yang dikesempatan kemudian berhasil meraih penghargaan Golden Globe sebagai aktris komedi dan musikal terbaik.
Dikisahkan seorang jurnalis lulusan Universitas Northwestern, Andrea Sachs atau Andy (Anne Hathaway) mendapatkan panggilan kerja di sebuah penerbitan majalah sebagai asisten kepala editor, satu posisi yang konon dijuluki a million girls would kill for. Sayangnya, Andy benar-benar tidak memahami apa sesungguhnya jenis pekerjaan dan terutama dengan siapa ia bekerja. Dari sinilah, sisi menarik dari film tersebut disuguhkan. Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep) digambarkan sebagai atasan yang sangat perfeksionis. Karena sifatnya, ia banyak ditakuti bawahannya, perintahnya adalah sesuatu tak terbantahkan, serta gemar melontarkan ungkapan pedas jika terjadi sesuatu diluar keinginannya. Bos ini sangat fashionable dan mendewakan fashioned-style.
Andy yang sangat tidak modis tersebut menjadi buah bibir para staf, terutama seniornya, Emily Charlton (Emily Blunt). Gaya hidup yang berbeda dan tekanan sang bos itu sempat membuat Andy stress, hingga ia bertemu Nigel (Stanley Tucci), salah satu orang kepercayaan Miranda. Melalui Nigel, ia belajar menyesuaikan gaya busana, aksesoris, dan make up. Pendek kata ia merubah kepribadiannya. Aksi nyata Andy mengubah penampilannya mempengaruhi sikap Miranda. Ditambah dengan kemampuan Andy mengerjakan tugas-tugas yang diberikan membuatnya semakin dipercaya sang bos. Namun, karirnya pekerjaannya yang semakin cemerlang berbanding terbalik dengan kehidupan pribadinya. Tentu saja, karena hari-harinya sibuk melayani semua keperluan sang atasan hingga hubungan Andy dengan pacar serta teman-temannya merenggang. Di sinilah sisi-sisi dilematis yang dramatis di ramu cukup baik meski tetap tidak meninggalkan sisi komedi.
Hingga akhirnya, Andy merasa harus mengakhiri dilema. Dan ia memilih kehidupan pribadinya bersama pacar, keluarga, dan kawan-kawannya dibanding kesuksesan karirnya.
The Devil Wears Prada adalah karya adaptasi kedua David Frankel setelah Sex and the City. Bersama Wendy Finerman dan Karen Rosenfelt sebagai produser, ia membawa karya ini meraih penghargaan dari the National Board of Review dan The American Film Institute sebagai 10 film terbaik. Pada pertengahan Desember 2006, karya ini juga mendapat nominasi Golden Globe Award sebagai Best Picture (Comedy/Musical) dan Supporting Actress (Blunt).
Pengambilan gambar dilakukan dibeberapa tempat, diantaranya The McGraw-Hill Building, kantor majalah Runway, beberapa perkantoran di Manhattan, showroom milik Calvin Klein, The American Museum of Natural History. Kesemuanya berada di New York, Amerika. Pengambilan gambar juga dilakukan di Paris. Pemilihan Paris tentu saja bukan tanpa alasan, karena kota ini menjadi kiblat tren busana dunia.
David Denby dalam New Yorker menyatakan kritiknya bahwa film The Devil Wears Prada mengangkat kisah yang umumnya terjadi. Artinya tidak ada sesuatu yang unik dari film tersebut. Meski demikian, penghargaan dan nominasi penghargaan atas film ini cukup menjadi bukti kualitasnya.
Novel karya Weisberger yang telah diterjemahkan kedalam 37 bahasa ini tentu berimbas pada mudah diterimanya film adaptasinya oleh masyarakat internasional. Maka tidak salah jika, film the devil wears prada menjadi salah satu koleksi terbaik saya.

August Rush

Keramaian dunia perfilman tahun 2007 bertambah semarak dengan dirilisnya August Rush. Film yang disebut-sebut reduplikasi dari Oliver Twist nya Charles Dickens tersebut digadang-gadang mendapatkan penghargaan di ajang Academy Award. Fil arahan sutradara Kirsten Sheridan bersama penulis skenario, Paul Castro, Nick Castle, and James V. Hart ini dirilis 21 November 2007.
Film ini berkisah tentang perjalanan hidup seorang anak, Evan Taylor yang diperankan dengan sangat apik oleh Freddie Highmore. Ia tumbuh di satu rumah singgah dan menyimpan keistimewaan mampu mendengar musik lewat perantara alam, sinar, angin, udara, dan lainnya. Kemampuannya tersebut memberinya keyakinan bahwa kedua orang tuanya pasti masih hidup dan sedang berjuang menemukannya.



Perjalanan hidup membawanya bertemu Richard Jeffries (Terrence Howard), seorang pekerja sosial di Departemen Layanan Anak Kota New York yang berniat mengadopsinya setelah melihat kemampuan Evan dalam bermusik.
Cerita dikemas dengan sentuhan alur balik. Berawal dari bertemunya Lyla Novacek, (Keri Russell), seorang pemain celo terkenal dan Louis Connelly (Jonathan Rhys Meyers), gitaris dan vokalis band dari Irlandia di sebuah pesta. Meski tidak ada niat untuk mendekati satu sama lain sebelumnya, namun hubungan singkat terjadi antara keduanya malam itu.
Tanpa diduga, kebersamaan singkat tersebut menyebabkan Lyla hamil. Kehamilan yang sama sekali tidak diinginkan oleh ayah Lyla itu membuatnya kehilangan bayi di kemudian hari. Tanpa persetujuan, ayah Lyla menyerahkan bayi Evan ke panti asuhan untuk diadopsi.
Selama hidupnya, keyakinan Evan bahwa kesungguhannya mempelajari musik akan mempertemukannya dengan orang tua terus ada. Keyakinan itu membawa Evan kabur ke New York dan bertemu Aurthur dan teman-temannya, anak-anak pengamen jalanan hingga ia sendiri dipekerjakan bersama mereka. Kepandaian bermusik Evan yang luar biasa membuat Maxwell Wallace atau "Wizard" (Robin Williams), pria yang menampung anak-anak jalan tersebut menjulukinya "August Rush". Akibat terkena razia polisi, justru keberuntungan yang ia dapatkan karena ditampung di rumah singgah milik gereja hingga memberinya pendidikan musik di the Juilliard School. Evan dijadwalkan tampil di the New York Philharmonic in Central Park. Namun sayang sekali, tipu muslihat Wizard membuatnya harus sekali lagi turun ke jalan. Pada satu kesempatan mengamen di Washington Square Park, Evan and Louis yang notabene adalah bapaknya sempat bermain musik bersama, meski mereka tidak menyadari status itu satu sama lain.
Film berdurasi 113 menit ini memulai resolusi cerita saat Lyla mengetahui fakta mengenai bayinya yang ternyata masih hidup. Fakta ini membawanya ke New York untuk menemukan anaknya setelah terpisah 12 tahun yang lalu. Pada saat yang sama, Louis menggelar konser di kota yang sama. Pada malam konser, Evan berhasil kabur lagi dari Wizard dan bermain di konser tersebut. Pada bagian penutup, film yang mengambil Brooklyn Heights di Brooklyn, New York City di New York sebagai tempat syuting tersebut menyuguhkan adegan yang sangat dramatis, saat ketiga pemeran utama bertemu setelah sekian lama saling mencari.
Akting Freddie Highmore sebagai Evan Taylor atau August Rush memang sangat memukau hingga mengantarkannya meraih 2008 Won Saturn Award Best Performance by a Younger Actor. Paduan akting antara Keri Russell, Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Freddie Highmore yang sangat natural juga berbuah manis dengan meraih Best Family Feature Film (Comedy or Drama).
Penghargaan lain datang berkat sentuhan musik yang apik oleh Mark Mancina hingga dinominasikan meraih Academy Award for Best Original Song (Raise It Up). Mark Mancina menghabiskan 18 bulan membuat komposisi soundtract tersebut. Dalam sebuah pernyataan, Mancina menuturkan bahwa tema musik dibuat terlebih dahulu sehingga komposisi lagunya berisi potongan cerita kehidupan August. Ia juga beranggapan bahwa titik tolak cerita film ini adalah bagaimana kita merespon dan berhubungan melalui musik.
Respon berbeda datang dari berbagai kritikus. Dalam sebuah kolom di USA Today, Claudia Puig berpendapat bahwa tidak semua orang dapat menikmati cerita August Rush, namun jika mereka menyatukan diri dengan alunan iramanya maka tak akan ada masalah. Dalam pendapat yang berbeda, Pam Grady dari San Francisco Chronicle menilai film ini sebagai tontonan yang konyol dengan cerita yang menggelikan.
Terlepas dari pendapat miring para kritikus diatas, film yang diproduksi oleh Warner Bros Picture dan diproduseri oleh Richard Barton Lewis ini tetap dapat dijadikan menu utama untuk dinikmati di akhir pekan. Meski untuk menontonnya dibutuhkan konsentrasi karena rangkaian alurnya yang tidak searah.

Mysterious, uproar but romantic are all the impression after watching “The Lake House”. This film is produced by the big creative house production which has given their dedication in creating attractive meaningful films in the world. The lake house is not the first drama movie Warner Bros Picture has ever made but it is only one of their best movies included to the America Box Office. The film grossed a total of $13.6 million and stay up on the fourth rank of the United State Box Office. At the time of October, 2006 the film that reunites Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock since Speed in 1994, has grossed domestically $52,330,111.



David Auburn carries the theme of illogical time travel romance to The Lake House. We can say that this film is too much inconsistency but it could not be denied that the writer, David Auburn has succeeded in creating the creative story of the lonely lovers in different time. So some of us may laugh because of not finding this case in the real life, in other hand we will be attracted to its sweet romance story.
The play director of this movie seems want to combine imagination that is unreal to the real life situation. Mysterious but unique are the impression of the movie, since the play director apply “random” plot. The story began by the leaving of dr. Kate Forester (Sandra Bullock) from her Lake House on a winter morning in 2006 for a job in Chicago. She left a note for the next Lake House tenant and asking him to forward her mail, telling him about the paw prints on the bridge, and the box in the attic. Alex Wyler (Keanu Reeves), the new tenant did not find any paw prints and found different Lake House, that’s why he disregarded Kate’s letter for a few days. One day he painted the bridge, a stray dog ran and left paw prints. Finally, Alex found that both he and Kate were separated in time by 2 years. Alex was in 2004 while Kate was in 2006. He sent a mail telling that thing. While corresponding through the mailbox, they were in love. Once they met in Morgan’s party, they shared and danced. Alex realized it but Kate did not. Since they realized their feeling, they planned to make a date in IL MARE in 2006, unfortunately Alex did not come. It made Kate decided not to continue her relation because she knew it will be difficult even impossible. She asked Alex not to correspond her anymore. On Valentines Day, Kate and Morgan visited an Architect firm includes Alex’s brother, Henry. Kate noticed a sketch of The Lake House that finally she knew it was made by Alex. As Kate asked Henry about meeting his brother, he sadly said that Alex died two years a go on the day where Kate found herself with the died man because of accident in front of the plaza. Finally she rushed to The Lake House to tell Alex for not going to meet her and cross the street and ask him to wait her in The Lake House.
It is the story of two different people with two different time life. Sandra Bullock as Dr. Kate Forster, the main character, lived in 2006 while Keanu Reeves as Alex Wyler, the main character, lived in 2004. However, they corresponded uniquely from those two different life times. They enjoyed their relationship even though it run uncommonly. The lake house Alex and Kate had ever stayed there in different time and the dog named Jack became unifier of their love. Their love came very naturally. There were many coincidental events that sprouted up affairs between them. Of course, we need to pay more attention in watching plot to plot because it is modified randomly however its easy theme and slow tense make this film interesting to be watched twice.
The Lake House has invited many comments because of it offered another kind of romance story. Roger Ebert in the Chicago Sun-Times writes that the story raises this question: "Is there a way for them to send letters across the gap that will allow them to meet where she was in 2004, or she where will be in 2006, or vice-versa?" However, the Los Angeles Times from Carina’s Chorano review concludes that the illogical time gap between Alex and Kate cannot really be explained but many natural events of love may be occurred in the existing real world. Gene Seymour in Newsday extremely writes: You may feel the middle of your head pressed to a hard boil." And still many comments about this film. Above all, The Lake House seemly is not created to fulfill the logical thinking of the audiences but to define the feeling of love that is not merely guessable and is not always physically-oriented.
Such films carry some purposes. The film is made basically to express certain condition, to support certain situation, to define reality, to inform some crucial thing, and to contribute to the world of literature as it is done by The Lake House. This film offers another kind of love story that is unreal and imaginative. The Lake House defines the reality that love must not always be materialistic and physical-oriented but the feeling of belonging, self-happiness, feeling to protect, taking and giving is the most crucial values of love. The love of Alex and Kate is real but not real in the term of authentic situation.
Some information about architect supports the existence of another scene of this film. Medical information is also appeared well in supporting the characteristics of the main character. We can also find another “father-son” relationship here.
Again, The Lake House has offered another kind of how people build up their feeling of love. Even though there is a critical assessment about this film that is its illogical plot. The time paradox make the film sounds strange but unique.
Whatever, the Lake House is constantly interesting to be our “friend” of the weekend.

The Curse of Golden Flower, one of the most credible movie that has successfully carried cultural and historical values of human being was precisely released in the late of 2006. This movie creatively portrayed the very secret side of Tang Dinasty history in the year of 928M. Marrital affairs, fighting for power, and rebellion (kudeta) became the ’main menu’ of the story.



Zhang Yimou as the director is very skillful in performing a very likely and natural setting. Thus, the movie lovers are guarranted to find almost every corner of the palace that is authentic. It seems that the Tang Dynasty particularly exists at the moment.
Actually, what makes the story seems to be challenging is that the creator of The Curse of Golden Flower is able to combine an action genre and an esthethical performance at once. Culture, physical and phsycological setting, and characterization were pictured as it was. That is why, this performance is also suitably prefered as the historical review of the human civilization in old China around the year 928M.
Even though the theme of this movie is not categorized as something new, the structure of the plot is composed in very creative way. There were many hidden tricks and strategies along with the plot that succesfully made audiences felt challenged to picture every single scene of the Curse of Golden Flower.Gong Li, who was accordingly elected as one of the main character that lived not only under an image of her marrital affair with her son in law, Prince Wan, but also by having covered hostility with his husband, the emperor of Tang Dynasty (Chow Yun Fat) became an interesting exposition by which problems and conflicts then appeared gradually.
Still, the basic idea of the story was the queen’s desire to send down her husband from his position as the emperor and promote her son, Prince Ji as the next emperor. From the very beginning, the Curse of Golden Flower was set out likely as a map of puzzle that offered an audience with a lot of hidden tricks. Meanwhile, the triangle love affair between the queen, prince Wan (queen’s son in law), and the daughter of palace traditional healer (tabib istana), the presence of the emperor’s love affair before he married to the queen, the emperor’s trick to kill his wife softly by poisoning her through her medicine herbs, fight for power among princes, and the queen’s military rebellion on the day of the golden flower festival became a complication that led the story into climax.
The Curse of Golden Flower which was released by Sonny Classic Pictures in partnership with Beijing New Picture Co. Ltd in December 22, 2006 inferred some substantial messages especially in the effort of building up an ideal human civilization, in a broader sense. Let’s see how the story accordingly let people know about the hazardous effect of negative political affair, the feeling of being intimidated, unfairness action that will probably invite negative reaction and the importance of keeping up the harmony of a family. Above all, the movie would also like to tell the people that a member of empire family are an ordinary human being who have also the ’black’ side of personal life while many people think that both emperor and queen especially are a holy person.
In a broader sense, the similar story basically exists in everyday life because naturally every individual has personal desire to be more powerful among others. Moreover, marrital affair, political dishonesty, rebellion (kudeta), and power manipulation have become a part of society which are transformed in a very softly covered way. It can be assummed that almost no country with no affair.
Whatever it is, the Curse of Golden Flower that performed a dramatic ending in which almost hundreds rebellion troops of the queen’s died on the hand of emperor’s personal spy troops. In spite of the fact that she with all her plans to send his husband down from the kingdom were failed, her desire to expose all emperor’s affairs and promote her son to be the king succeeded.
Beyond the structure of the plot (problem, conflict, climax) that have been discussed above, there is the law of the plot that also supports the perfomance of certain movie that is plausibility, suspense, and surprise. In the term of plausibilty, the Curse of Golden Flower is logic enough, even tough some phsycal and phsychological settings were set out in the traditional China while suspense was not performed maximally because all scenes were covered almost in a common way. Only few of them contained such suspense impressions, even tough musical background was arranged very well. Likewise, surprise did not too much appear. For that reason, some movie reviewers claimed that Zhang Yimou emphasizes the physical performance rather than the content of the story.
No matter what the criticism, factually the Curse of Golden Flower is able to achieve fourteen nominations in Hong Kong Film Award 2007. One prestigious achievement in the history of literary works that the movie creator has ever have.

Ekskul, the movie which is succesfully taken 4 awards in Indonesian Film Festival (FFI) has invited some controvesials. From the very beginning of its launching up to its coronation as the best Indonesian movie 2006, ekskul stimulated many critics from movie reviewers. Some of them found that musical settings of this movie plagiarized some musician creations.



However, Nayato as the director of Ekskul, has creatively carried the newly chalenging theme in his third movie after The Soul and Cinta Pertama. He emphasized on family and education issue rather than teenager and love story which is mostly carried out by other directors. Releasing this movie means gambling, according to Nayato, since the Indonesian cinemas are mostly oriented to promote the adolescent’s love stories.
This movie that is produced by PT Indika Cipta Media is inspired from the real life story in which Joshua (Ramon) found himself in both a very unfamiliar family and a presurred social condition in school. His father and mother educated him almost in crude ways. Unfortunately, the harshed manner, bad word, threat, physical, and phsycological intimidations which were habitually executed to him happened not only in his home but also in his school. Being underpresure, Joshua angrily took some of his friend as a hostage few days after he bought and made a raft of a revolver.
The director seems wanted to explore the new technique through this movie. He designed the whole movie by exposing problems almost in every stage. At glance, the reviewer could not be able to isolate an exposition, problem, conflict, and even climax, unless resolution, because he uniquely mixed all these parts.
Nayato began the story directly to the scene where the main character (Joshua) were taking targeted friends as a hostage. By appearing problems from the very beginning, consequently reviewers are forced to find ”causes’ from ”effects” by flowing down through each detail of the plot. In other word, since the structure of the plot of Ekskul is basically derived from ’flasback’ technique, the conflict and complication appeared in the beginning of the story. The first scene performed the strain situation happened in school where polices, school staffs, and students run in crowd because of Joshua’s action in taking hostages. While this action as the main setting performed, a slide telling Joshua’s physical and pyschological intimidation from his parents appeared, then coming back again to the main scene where Joshua made an interaction with the police and his school counselor, then a slide showing his friend’s intimidations to him, and then a particularly similar points coming and going. Even though, the plot was designed probably by breaking the natural structure, Ekskul has a very common resolution where the main character closed the problem soflty. He killed himself.
This plot structure is particularly used to help audience getting the main problem without giving any exposition. Both problem and conflict also occurred almost in line to proof that this movie is able to do some reformulation of the plot and also to give some surprises and suspense. Reformulation here is aimed to put something new in the way people shares ideas, in this case, the director’s ideas.
Being known that the good movie reflects the good idea. The good idea does not always means big things. All movies start with an idea that normally and gradually share certain messages. Ekskul tried to offer relativelly an old issue but still can possibly contribute to overcome social education problems such that were ilustrated in this movie.
Ekskul where the couple of Indra Brasco and Mona Ratuliu participated in was accordingly purposed to tell parents especially to be strictly wise and carefull in educating their children. Being wise can explicitely be meant giving them an apropriate treatment to every behaviour comes up from them. Simply saying that the most important thing to be implemented to children, especially in the period of adolescent is to be a good model. What have been ilustrated in this movie was that there were no good models given to Joshua unless intimidation that significantly influenced to his emotional development. The creator of this movie is accordingly desired to make parents realize on their responsible of taking care their adolescent as good as possible.
The principle of fairness can also be another point which was released in this movie. In accordance to this issue, a part of social life in school that commonly be put a side by school staffs is that controlling students behavior out of class. So far, teachers’ duty is simply transferring knowledge. As what has been proposed by Ekskul that every member of society should be fair to others in order to create a dynamic human civilization.

Film yang tergolong baru karena baru dirilis pada akhir Spetember 2006 ini mengangkat permasalahan yang dihadapi sebuah keluarga muda, keluarga Michael (Adam Sandler), (Kate Beckinsale), dan kedua anaknya. Karena obsesi sang kepala keluarga untuk mengejar karinya sebagai arsitektur, dia kehilangan komunikasinya dengan keluarga. Dia menjadi workaholik yang hampir tidak mempunyai waktu untuk keluarga.
Komplikasi permasalahan muncul ketika Michael mendapatkan remote universal dari seorang ilmuan. Dibagian inilah fitur-fitur imaginasi tampak. Remote tersebut mampu memutar kejadian yang telah lampau dan mempercepat sebuah peristiwa. Sebagaimana remote kontrol televisi yang berfungsi untuk memperlambat, mempercepat, mengecilkan dan membesarkan suara, serta mengubah tampilan fisik. Remote Micahel pun memiliki fungsi yang sama.
Sepintas remote ini memudahkan Michael dalam menjalani kehidupan sehari-hari. Dia bisa menghindari peristiwa-peristiwa yang tidak ia sukai, seperti gonggongan Sundance (anjing peliharaannya) dan omelan istrinya dengan mengecilkan volume suara keduanya. Michael juga mampu memanipulasi peristiwa-peristiwa terkait dengan perjalanan karirnya, sehingga dia tidak perlu menunggu lama untuk dipromosikan sebagai arsitek tetap di sebuah firma yang dipimpin David Hasselhoff, selain itu dia bisa memotong atau mempercepat setiap kejadian yang tidak diinginkannya. Akan tetapi, kemudahan-kemudahan yang ditawarkan remote kontrol ini kemudian mengubah seluruh hidupnya, karena satu peristiwa yang dipercepat secara otomatis akan mempercepat dengan sendirinya, sehingga begitu banyak rangkaian peristiwa dalam kehidupan keluarganya yang terlewati begitu saja. Meski akhirnya Michael merasakan puncak kejayaan yaitu menjadi arsitek terkenal dan kaya, dia kehilangan momen perkembangan anak-anaknya, perceraian dengan istrinya, kematian ayahnya, bahkan dia tidak mengetahui detil alur kehidupan keluarganya. Inilah klimaks cerita bergenre komedi keluarga ini. Pada akhirnya, Michael yang diperankan oleh Adam Sandler yang juga menjadi produser ”Click” menyesal telah menjual setiap detil perjalanan keluarganya demi sebuah kesenangan sesaat. Susah payah membangun keluarga sebelum dia memiliki remote lebih dia pilih daripada melewatkan hampir seluruh bagian hidupnya. Akan tetapi semuanya terlambat, karena dalam perjanjian awal telah terjadi kesepakatan bahwa remote tersebut tidak dapat dikembalikan atau dimusnahkan.
Steven Koren, Mark O'Keefe, Tim Herlihy sebagai tim penulis menyajikan ending yang sangat menarik karena semua kejadian yang dialami Michael dan akhir kehidupannya yang menyedihkan tadi hanyalah mimpi.
Film yang didistribusikan oleh Sony Pictures tersebut mengandung pesan yang cukup dalam bagi para workaholik khususnya yang hidupnya selalu diprioritaskan bagi profesionalisme kerja yang sesungguhnya semu. Pada akhirnya setiap manusia membutuhkan nuansa lain dalan kehidupannya yaitu kehangatan dan kebersamaan keluarga. Film ini sangat pantas dijadikan tontonan keluarga atas dedikasinya dalam memberi kesadaran bagi kita yang selalu berorietansi pada hasil (product oriented) dan bukan pada orientasi proses dalam segala hal. Inilah kunci mengapa manusia gagal dalam membangun kehidupan yang lebih baik, karena dia berpikir pada hasil akhir sehingga melupakan proses. Selamat berpikir.
